The Office of General Counsel provides legal advice and representation to Penn State and all of its schools and colleges, Commonwealth Campuses, division, units, affiliates and related entities, including Penn State Health.
This counsel and representation includes managing and directing all litigation involving the University, and attorneys in the Office of General Counsel are involved in each stage of the litigated matter. They provide advice and guidance relating to disputes that reasonably may lead to litigation, work with outside counsel when a dispute or litigation matter requires the retention of outside counsel, direct each stage of the litigation, and help manage overall legal risk.
The Office of General Counsel also provides legal advice and representation to the Board of Trustees, the President, and other administrators in their capacity as agents conducting University business in litigation matters. The attorneys in the Office of General Counsel do not provide legal services to University employees in litigation involving their personal matters.
