The attorneys in the Office of General Counsel do not provide legal services to University employees in litigation involving their personal matters.
The Office of General Counsel aids the University in navigating global, US, state, and local laws and regulations that govern the workplace for staff and faculty. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, employment contracts, wage and hour compliance, collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, health and safety, leaves of absence, workplace policies, academic freedom, free speech, tenure and promotion, employee discipline, and anti-discrimination and retaliation laws. We proactively identify risks and develop strategies and solutions to help the University avoid litigation and other employee disputes. When litigation is unavoidable, the Office of General Counsel manages outside law firms to protect the University’s interests.
